It is therefore more useful to consider the whole supply chain rather than focusing purely on the location printed on the label.

Where parts can be replaced or furniture can be repaired, the useful life of the sofa may be extended considerably. That can be more sustainable than replacing an entire suite because one part has become worn.

Before buying, it is worth asking what happens several years down the line. Can seat interiors be replaced? Is matching fabric likely to remain available? Can damaged components be repaired?
